Sting of death
“The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin [by which it brings death] is the law (1 Corinthians 15:56, AMP)
One of the strategies the Devil is using to delude the Church of Christ today is to make some of the important messages which ought to be preached always look old fashioned. Sin is one of such subjects which sadly many preachers wouldn’t like to preach, yet the apostles vehemently warned people against it. The main message Jesus preached and commissioned his disciples to preach is ‘repent’ for the kingdom of God is near. Repentance includes turning away from godlessness to God through Jesus Christ. Jesus said that the gospel shall be preached to all nations for the forgiveness of sins (Luke 24:47).
Preaching on the Day of Pentecost, Apostle Peter warned his audience to ‘escape from this wicked and perverse generation’ Acts 2:40. So then, we must not tire of being reminded of the dangers of sin, that sin is the sting of death. That each time we sin, we are stung by death and this cumulatively results to death.
Turning away from sin to Christ saves us from being stung by death. Jesus said; “I tell you the truth, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life and will not be condemned; he has crossed over from death to life” (John 5:24, GNB).
The fang of death is broken by the forgiveness of our sins on the Cross. The death of Christ on the Old Rugged Cross has killed the sting of death so that they who are saved are never stung by sin because they are forgiven. “As some serpents cannot hurt when they have lost their sting, so death cannot hurt a soul, whose sin is taken away by Jesus Christ” (Benjamin Keech). We however, enabled by the Holy Spirit have the individual responsibility to ensure that we no longer conform to worldly standards lest sin entangles us.
Let’s rejoice because the sting of death no longer has power over us. Let us praise God for he has destroyed the sting of death through Christ Jesus. Hallelujah!
Prayer: Thank you Lord God for washing away my sins by the death on the cross. Help me to remain protected from the sting of death that I will not succumb to the sting of death. Amen!
